Using the RAID Rebuild Process for O/S Backup
SimplStor deploys the O/S volume as a Mirrored RAID set – RAID 1. This volume is separate from any data volumes on the unit. This ensures excellent O/S performance and protection against hardware failure. This will not protect against operator error or system corruption. This paper will document how to use the RAID rebuild process to create and refresh a backup O/S disk; and in the event of O/S corruption, how to use the backup disk to restore a working version of the O/S. Like all back-up scenarios, any changes to the original volume made after the back-up is created will not be available when the restore process is completed.
If you have purchased a “Zerowait High Availability Kit” you have additional drives available to serve as spares and one to perform the backup.
