Data Replication

Many SimplStor customers are interested in using replication technology to maintain multiple copies of data, either onsite or at a remote location. Customers who are familiar with Network Appliance Data ONTAP storage systems are familiar with ‘snapmirror’. While ‘snapmirror’ itself is a proprietary technology, the open source utility ‘rsync’ can provide similar results and comparable replication speeds on Linux and Unix systems. This white paper describes how to setup ‘rsync’ to provide replicated data between multiple Linux systems. We will also describe a method of synchronizing backups of NetApp volumes.
